http://www.braincare.com/2/dr/ Do You Have ADD or ADHD? Here Are The Symptoms: How is ADD or ADHD diagnosed? The fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, published by the American Psychiatric Association, says the conditions below must be met. Dr. Seiden also uses the computerized T.O.V.A. (Test of Variables of Attention) to help diagnose ADD and ADHD and to measure improvement over time with treatment. If you or your child have six or more symptoms from column A or from column B for a least six months you or he/she may have ADD or ADHD. A -- Symptoms of Inattentiveness 1. Careless or inattentive to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work or other activities 2. Trouble staying attentive at work or play 3. Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly 4. Often doesn't follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores or duties in the workplace. 5. Has trouble organizing tasks and activities 6. Avoids, dislikes or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort 7. Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities 8. Easily distracted by extraneous stimuli 9. Often forgetful in daily activities B -- Symptoms of hyperactivity 1. Often fidgets with hands or squirms in seat 2. Can't sit in a seat for long 3. Often runs about or climbs excessively at inappropriate times, or, in adults, is restless 4. Has difficulty playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly 5. Often "on the go" or acts as if driven by a motor 6. Often talks excessively 7. Often blurts out answers before questions have been completed 8. Has difficulty awaiting a turn 9. Interrupts or intrudes on others Note: Symptoms must begin before age seven, be present at home and school or work, and must significantly impair functioning. If you have six or more symptoms from column A or from column B, consider EEG Biofeedback as a treatment for ADD or ADHD.
