panic attacks

Dear Doctor, Can you please tell me what medication is preferable for panic attacks and anxiety- Lorivan or Cipralex. I have taken them both in the past but have weaned myself off as I am always afraid of becoming addicted. Please advise.

Dear Keren. Lorivan is not a medication known to be effective against panic attacks, it is effective against anxiety. Medication from the SSRI group, like cipralex, are effective against panic, however, it takes them 2-3 weeks for them to be effective. Regarding the time you need to be on medications depends on the characteristics of your condition. The more severe it is the longer you need to take the medications.
