מאוכזבת מהפורום

חבל לי להביע כך את אכזבתי מהפורום. ניתן אמנם למצוא בוא מענה ותמיכה אישית מהבנות הנחמדות שנמצאות בו, אך דווקא כשאני בלחץ ממשהו שלא בסדר, אז כל הרופאים נעלמים . חבל לי כי כל החג אני "תקועה" ללא מענה וזה לא קל. אולי כדאי לכתוב למנהלי הפורום, שיתנו פתרון יותר רציני לבעיות. לכל הבנות הנחמדות תמשיכו לנסות לעזור ככל יכולתכן, אתן באמת משהו.

הפורום הזה באמת מאכזב וכמו שאומרים "על הפנים". אני מסכימה איתך. הרופאים לא תמיד עונים לשאלות חשובות שמתרידות אותנו ואנו לחוצות. יש פורומים טובים יותר. אני נכנסת לפורומים שונים והפורום הזה הוא הפורום הכי "מגעיל" שיש - מבחינת הרופאים ולא הבנות המקסימות שנותנות מענה מנסיונן.

Can Blood Test Predict Pregnancy Outcome? Many pregnant women currently undergo “triple screen testing” between the fifteenth and twentieth weeks of pregnancy. The triple screen is a blood test that measures three different hormones: maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein, estriol, and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Based on the mother's age, the age of the baby, and other factors, the results show the baby's risk of having certain genetic disorders, including Down's syndrome. Some studies have suggested that high levels of HCG are also associated with an increased risk of pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia (pregnancy-induced high blood pressure), preterm delivery, placental abnormalities, and stillbirth. But a recent study concluded that measuring HCG to predict pregnancy outcome or risk of complications has little clinical value.1 In this study, the researchers reviewed the medical records of 28,743 pregnant women who had HCG tests in their second trimester. The records showed that 2,561 (9 percent) of the women had elevated HCG levels. Seventy-nine of these women had stillbirths, but only 27 of these stillbirths were considered preventable. The researchers found that high HCG levels were associated with a small increase in risk for stillbirth, placental abnormalities, preeclampsia, and preterm delivery without preeclampsia. But there was no link between high HCG levels and risk of gestational diabetes, premature rupture of membranes, intrauterine growth retardation, or small size for gestational age. Despite the relationship between high HCG levels and increased risk of stillbirths, the researchers suggest that because stillbirths are so rare, intervention would have saved very few pregnancies. In fact, it would have been necessary to treat 576 women in order to possibly prevent one stillbirth. The researchers also suggest that low socioeconomic status and race/ethnicity (particularly Filipino, Pacific Island, and African-American) are far better predictors of poor pregnancy outcomes than high HCG levels. They state that closely monitoring the pregnancies of women in these and other high-risk groups would improve pregnancy outcomes better than intervening based on high HCG levels. In an editorial accompanying the study, Dr. David A Luthy writes that HCG tests might be most helpful when used with women who are at risk for complications because of other factors, such as socioeconomic status or race/ethnicity. He adds, however, that even when a high-risk pregnancy is identified, it is not known whether or not careful monitoring and intervention can improve the pregnancy outcome.
