I take to help control my cholesterol. But I read that the alpha-linoleic acid (ALA) in flax increases the risk of prostate cancer. Is this true? Does the risk differ between ground flaxseed AND concentrated flaxseed oil in capsules?

hello, Flaxseed oil is derived from the seeds of the flax plant. Flaxseed oil AND flaxseed contain substances that promote good health. Flaxseed oil is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid that appears to be beneficial for heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis AND a variety of other health conditions. Flaxseed, in addition to ALA, contains a group of chemicals called lignans that may play a role in the prevention of cancer. Similar to macular degeneration, fish AND fish oil may protect against prostate cancer, but ALA may be associated with increased risk of prostate cancer in men. More research in this area is needed. To my concern the risk is the same in either way of consumption. all the best!
