GUM PROBLEMS

I am going through menopausal changes AND with this I have been having terrible gum infections. I am going to a specialst AND the first stage is 10 treatments of cleansing for 10 weeks AND only then we go to the second stage of repair. How can I be sure this is the best treatment (I refuse to do a gum operation) AND that I will end up paying a huge amount AND the problem will persist ? thanking you CANDY
