אני נוטלת טמוקסיפן מזה חצי שנה בקביעות. מעבר לתופעה של אגירת נוזלים , הרגשת מלאות, וגלי חום, אני מרגישה ירידה ממשית במצב רוח, דיכאון קל, שלא היה קיים בעבר. האם ידועה לכם תופעת לוואי זו של הגלולה הזו? או שמא יש ירידה במוראל בגלל בעיה סביבתית אחרת?

Dr. Richard Day from the University of Pittsburgh, and colleagues, examined data on 11,064 women who were randomized to tamoxifen or placebo for 5 years in the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project's Breast Cancer Prevention Study. Each woman was classified prospectively at baseline as at low, medium, or high risk for depression, based on medical history. Every 6 months over 36 months the women were assessed for depressive symptoms using the Center for Epidemiological StudiesDepression questionnaire. "Scores of 16 or higher were indicative of an episode of affective distress," the investigators write. Women in the high-risk group for depression more often scored 16 or more, and for longer periods, than women in the lower risk groups. However, the percentage of women in each risk group who scored 16 or more did not differ between those assigned to placebo and those receiving tamoxifen (odds ratio 0.98), Dr. Day's group found. Given these findings, the researchers conclude that tamoxifen should not be considered a cause of depression among treated women. "Second, the findings of this study suggest that physicians need not automatically disqualify women as candidates for tamoxifen simply because they report a history of depressive symptoms or prior treatment for a depressive disorder," they add.
