i have started switching my baby's feeding from offering both breasts each feeding to offering one in each. the main reason was the high frequency he is nursing. mainly at night. as expected i had some engorgement that is better now, but in one of my breast i have a lump (gush) that does not disappear even when the baby is done eating. when i try to pump it out - nothing comes out. on the 2nd day of this process the area was red and swollen, and i felt seek and needed to take some tylenol, but my general feeling has improved since. but the "gush" is still there. is this normal or should i worry? BTW - the baby is 3.5 months old Toda

hi ayelet, a gush isn't a normal thing even tho it is common. you can try to break it up by massage and try to empty the breast as often as possible. I am assuming that the gush was present before switching. switching is the genrally recommended feeding pattern which encourages more frequent emptying of the breasts. meaning feeding from both at each meal. but it one side feeds are okay for you then go for it!! ellen
