reflux

my son is 3 months old and a half. the dr. told me that probably he has reflux. today he also threw up from his nose. he only breastfeeds. what can i do to help him? is it dangerous situation? he also sometimes makes choking sounds and burps and throws up. the biggest problem as of now is that sometims he has trouble eating - he is "annoyed" and isnt CALM while breastfeeding, but sometimes he is calm. what does it mean when he isnt calm? toda raba

hi rachel. u have to read this from the bottom up i think. if the baby is not calm, it could be due to an overactive letdown reflex which means the stream of milk being ejected is too strong for him to swallow quick enough. if he seems to choke on the milk at the beginning of feeds this might be the case. 2 ways of handling it. 1) feed him while leaning back so that the milk is going against gravity or 2) pump until the initial spurts subside. babies often throw up or spit up which doesn't necessarily mean that it is reflux. hope this helps. ellen
