Confounding factors do not explain the association because adjustment has been made for cigarette smoking AND the use of other types of analgesics. There have been inconsistent fi ndings on the role of aspirin in the etiology of renal cell cancer. A large-scale study in Minnesota14 observed no relation with regular use OR duration of use for aspirin, acetaminophen OR even phenacetin. But in Denmark, women who were heavy users of phenacetin had a signifi cant fi ve-fold increase in the risk of renal cell cancer15.
