HIV Strains

Hi- I understand there are many strains of the HIV virus. How accurate are the tests out there in capturing the different strains? Would testing negative after 5 1/2 months after potential exposre suggest that the person is free from all strains of the virus? what is the most reliable test out there? Thanks!
