Jaw pain

Dr Klein I have suddenly suffered from jaw pain on my left side for about week whenever I bite down and chew. I can open my mouth wide, but I cannot close it all the way (so my teeth cannot touch each other). I’ve never had jaw problems in the past and I don’t grind my teeth. I’ve confirmed with a dentist and x-rays that I don’t have any teeth or gum issues. What could be the problem? An infection? a muscle problem in the jaw? Thank you
